Will They Listen

We took your advice Molly. But, did they hear us? The hundreds of thousands of us who were there, raising our voices in unison. Out of Iraq, NOW, we said. Stop the killing, we shouted. End the occupation, we yelled. Stop funding the war, we screamed. No escalation, we hollered. Impeach Bush and Cheney, we roared. But did they hear us?

Molly Ivins has died at the age of 62. She passed away last night in her home in Austin, Texas following a long bout with breast cancer. Her weekly column appeared in over 400 newspapers making her the most widely read progressive columnist in the country. The writer Harvey Wasserman wrote this about Molly Ivins: “If Mark Twain has a female counterpart on today’s political and journalistic scene, it is Molly Ivins.

We ended 2006 at the Crawford Peace House with a candlelight vigil on Dec. 31st for the 655,000 Iraqi citizens sacrificed to war profits and greed by a fearful sleeping public who are finally waking up. It's our job to keep them awake and not to let them crawl back under the covers.
